This class covers:

  • darning knitwear
  • weaving in your yarns
  • understanding knit fabric
  • techniques for repairing your socks and sweaters with a darning loom

You will create a mending sampler on a provided knit swatch. There will be time during the class to work on your own garment after you learn the techniques. People typically bring a wool, cashmere, or cotton sweater or socks.

We will be working with wool swatches, wool yarns, and cotton embroidery thread.

What's included:

  • Wool tapestry yarn, cotton embroidery thread, tapestry needle, sweater sample for practicing on, and handy visible mending guide - an $8 value
  • A pair of thread snips to use during class and available for purchase afterwards
  • Bring your own loom, borrow a loom for the class, or purchase a loom from us
    • Please note: borrowed/purchased looms work best on holes that are 1" in diameter and smaller

Choose Your Date & Time: Wednesday, September 30, 6:30 - 8:30 PM or Tuesday, October 6, 6:30 - 8:30 PM

This is an introductory class and you'll learn skills to mend your clothes. Even if you've never darned before this class is an introduction to hand darning.

By the end of the class you'll have your own mending sampler you can refer back to again and again.

What is Visible Mending? Visible mending is a radical act. By making your clothes last longer you're challenging the way we consume clothing. Visible mending brings attention to your loved clothing that might have otherwise ended up in the landfill.
